After graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oklahoma State University in 1990, Dr. Whitworth spent 24+ years in private mixed animal practice. In 2000, Dr. Whitworth opened Animal Health Services in Byng, Oklahoma. For the next 14+ years he spent a majority of his time working on large animals with most of that time spent on Cow-Calf operations and sale barns. In 2014, he accepted the position of Area Food/Animal Quality and Health Specialist with Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension Service. On January 1, 2023, he was appointed Senior Extension Specialist with the Department of Animal & Food Sciences.
In addition to being a Senior Extension Specialist, Dr. Whitworth became the State BQA Coordinator in April 2023. Dr. Whitworth is responsible for developing educational programs for County Extension Educators as well as BQA education. One of his favorite educational programs is Calving Time Management. The program incorporates the use of the Hereford Dystocia Simulator to teach cattle producers how to deal with difficult births.
